	Upcoming Events MBDA State Honor Band Saturday, April 21 - Sunday, April 22 Four AVHS students, Chelsi Serba (clarinet), Matthew Racine (trumpet), Jack Courtright (trombone), and Leah Andrews (percussion), were selected for the Minnesota Band Directors Association 9th-10th Grade Honor Band. They will rehearse with Dr. Timorthy Mahr (St. Olaf College) on Saturday, April 21, at Fergus Falls High School and then perform a concert at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 22. Congratulations on the honor! Year-End Band Booster Parent Meeting Tuesday, May 15, 7:00 p.m., AVHS Band Room All parents are welcome to attend the last Band Booster Parent Meeting of the year! We will review the year’s band programs and hear what’s in store for 2012-2013 (including the fall band trip to Orlando), discuss fundraising goals and scholarships, close out financials, review 501(c)(3) filing and enjoy conversation with other band parents. 		Marching Band NEWS! Color Guard Auditions - May 14-15 Marching at the July 4th Parade The AVHS marching band will participate in the Apple Valley July 4th Parade. All members are needed for this great community event! Please email the directors if you are unable to attend. Evening rehearsals will be on Mon, July 2 and Tues, July 3 (6:00 - 7:30 p.m.). On Wed, July 4, students are needed from noon - 2:00 p.m. Fall Marching Band Tour - Orlando, October 18-23, 2012 (MEA Break) Off to Central Florida! 	Wind Ensemble Premiers Composition

The AVHS Wind Ensemble will premier a new work by Dr. Timothy Mahr (St. Olaf College) titled “An Examined Life” at the May 24 concert. The piece is written in loving memory of AVHS band alumnus Christopher Goeke (1986-2010). First Lieutennant Goeke was killed responding to an attack in Kandahar City, Afghanistan. The commission was paid by contributions from brother Matthew Goeke, the Christopher Goeke Leadership Foundation and the AVHS Band Boosters. It is a beautiful piece of music.
