ETUDE ASSESSMENTS FOR ALL 9th-11th BAND STUDENTS DUE SOON

Every year, we have all underclassmen perform two etudes (one lyrical, one technical) as an annual assessment of player skills. The etudes have been posted in Schoology along with recordings of the etudes. All 9th-11th grade band members will be recording these etudes and submitting to Schoology by Monday, March 4th. Points towards the second trimester grade are given to those who turn the assessment in on time. The quality of the performance helps in determining band placement for the 2024-25 school year. Students who are completing the All-State auditions will submit those recordings in place of the AVHS etude assessments.

Formalwear Fitting Day, Monday, September 18th (10th-12th Grade Band Members)

Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble students will be fit for concert formalwear on Monday, September 18th during their band rehearsal period.  Band members have two formalwear options:

Tux Jacket Option: The school provides a black tuxedo jacket, loaned to the student, for the formalwear attire. The student will need to provide their own white dress shirt (doesn’t need to be a tux shirt), black tie (either long tie or bow tie), black dress pants and black dress shoes. The band boosters also pay for the tux jackets to be dry cleaned at the end of the year.

Students who already own either a black tuxedo or black suit do not need to go through the formalwear fitting process. They can wear their own garments instead of the school owned tux jackets.

Long Black Dress: The band boosters have purchased the dress inventory to be loaned to students for use. They also cover the cost for length alterations needed on the dresses.

Students will need to provide their own black dress shoes to wear with the dress.

Wind Ensemble members will need formalwear attire ready by Friday, November 10th. Symphonic Band members will need formalwear by Monday, December 11th.

Concert Band (9th Grade) Concert Attire

Members of the Concert Band will wear their band t-shirt (given to each student from a band booster purchase). Students will need to provide their own black dress pants, black sock, and black dress shoes. The first concert performance formalwear attire is needed is Monday, December 11th.

Hello! We want to keep you informed about the activities and announcements that are taking place in the Apple Valley band program. Here are this week’s announcements:

Welcome Concert Band Parents to the Friday Email Blast

Many of the 9th grade band parents are receiving the AVHS band email announcements for the first time this week. Welcome! These emails are sent to you as a weekly update on the activities and events happening in our band program. There are many opportunities and activities in our band program. As a new parent to our band program, these emails help keep you in touch with what is happening. Please ask questions (send us an email!) when you have additional questions.

Athletic Band TONIGHT (Sept. 8, 2023)!

All 10th-12th grade band members (Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble) will be part of the athletic band at the home football games. The first performance is tonight, Friday, September 8th. Students will need to arrive at AVHS by 6pm. They have been told to dress in neon clothing to match what the student section clothing theme is for tonight (in case they are leaving your house dressed a little crazy, there’s a reason!).

It's On Schoology!

Access your band student’s Schoology to find items such as grading policy, extra credit opportunities, band calendar, lettering policy, and band lesson information. We are happy to answer questions but this is a good starting point to figure how band class works at AVHS.

Lessons

Band lessons begin next week. Lesson schedules are posted on Schoology. Band lesson passes are emailed to students (and also to parents to help with a reminder) the evening before their lesson to get them excused from class.
